Every so often someone throws a few Facebook stats out there and exclaims how Facebook is “taking over the world.” Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. The Facebook statistics are staggering however, and it’s up to each artist to decide if Facebook is a marketing platform or a social tool, or both. Either way is fine, but some Facebook stats are more important than others when it comes to marketing your art…
Some Basic Jaw Dropping Facebook Stats …
-
Over 800 million active users
-
50% of active users log in on any given day
-
The average person has 130 friends
-
The average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups, or events
-
Over 75% of Facebook users reside outside of the U.S.
-
More than 70 languages are available on the site
-
Every month, more than 500 million people use an app on Facebook or experience Facebook platform on other websites
-
More than 7 million apps and websites are integrated with Facebook
-
More than 350 million active users currently access Facebook through their mobile devices (I do on occasion)
Source: Facebook…of course by the time you read this, the numbers will change, but you get the idea.
That’s amazing and everything, but what are you supposed to with that information to promote your artwork? I am asking you this question, but let’s be straight…I’m also asking myself the same thing. I’m not really an expert on Facebook, but I am getting involved, learning, and working my way through it. After a few months on Facebook, I do know this by now…
-
It does take a little time and effort to get your page up and running, but not a lot.
-
You don’t need 800 million people to check out your work, but you do need to try and get people that love art to like your page, just as you do with your website.
-
Facebook owns the whole enchilada, it ain’t yours, it ain’t mine, it’s theirs. They can, and do change the deal whenever they want to. When they go public, and need to meet earning expectations to appease their stockholders, expect anything.
-
You need to try to make your page interesting, and a little different from the rest.
-
It’s all about getting, being, and staying connected.
-
I would love you to check out my Facebook Art Page and like it if you thinks it’s worthy.

Facebook Demographics
These stats are a few months old, but still very interesting. If you’re gonna market your art to any extent on Facebook, you want to target that marketing. Knowing the age group of people most likely to buy your work is just part of an overall strategy. Nothing against thirteen year olds, but I’m pretty sure they are not on Facebook looking to buy original art to decorate their bedroom. Which age group are you in, and which age group buys most of your work?
Age Total Users Male Female
10% 13-17 14,402,580 6,646,820 7,719,380
35% 18-25 50,679,700 23,004,960 27,048,020
20% 26-34 29,703,340 13,588,320 15,577,380
16% 35-44 23,596,860 10,216,440 12,775,140
12% 45-54 17,425,520 6,915,900 10,176,980
7% 55-64 10,459,580 3,982,340 6,301,480

Five Facebook Stats that Really Matter
1 – There is only one you, make it easier for people to find you by having a presence on Facebook.
2 – You need a personal page, and a fan (business) page.
0 – Everybody starts with zero friends, likes, and fans. You won’t stay there for long.
100 – If you don’t give it a go, there’s a 100% chance it won’t help you socially or economically.
15 – Dedicate at least fifteen minutes a day to post and reply (after you get to know your way around). Of course you could sink a lot more time into it than that, especially if you find yourself getting some real reults. Just don’t forget about that painting you just started.
Facebook – Getting, Being, and Staying Connected
Maybe you are already on Facebook and could teach me a thing or two…I’m all ears! Maybe you don’t need or want to be a part this whole deal…that’s cool too. I kind of like it, but I really like CashArtBlog, so I put most of my extra time into it. By the way, here’s a good article to help you with Facebook
A while back I wrote a post with more on-line marketing information from a seminar I went to. If you haven’t read it yet, I think you will find it really interesting.
If you’re already on Facebook, let me know so I can check out your art and all things interesting…Thanks for reading
